Der Campingplatz war teuer, lag aber zentrumsnah und hatte zwei sch\u00f6ne warme Spas. In Rotorua riecht es h\u00e4ufig nach faulen Eiern aufgrund der \u00fcberall austretenden schwefelhaltigen Thermalquellen. Wir lie\u00dfen uns von dem Geruch nicht abschrecken und besuchten einen Park mit blubbernden hei\u00dfen Quellen und Schlamml\u00f6chern. Im Eintrittspreis inbegriffen waren eine Tanz- und Gesangauff\u00fchrung einiger dort lebender Einwohner und ein Maiskolben, der in einer hei\u00dfen Quelle gekocht worden war. Nachmittags machten wir einen Abstecher zu drei Seen: Blue Lake (Lake Tikitapu), Green Lake und Lake Tarawera. In Gisborne schenkte uns eine nette Maorifrau 2 $ f\u00fcr die Parkuhr. In der N\u00e4he des Hafens sahen wir die Statuen von Captain Cook und dem Schiffsjungen Nick, der hier als Erster Neuseeland gesichtet haben soll. Vom Napier Hill Lookout hatte man einen sch\u00f6nen Blick auf die Stadt und auf den Containerhafen, wo Unmengen an riesigen Baumst\u00e4mmen auf ihre Verladung warteten. Wir fuhren wieder ins Landesinnere bis nach Taupo an den gleichnamigen See, den gr\u00f6\u00dften See Neuseelands, der auf Grund eines ungeheuren Vulkanausbruchs entstanden ist. Unterwegs hielten wir bei den &#8222;Waipunga Falls&#8220;. Taupo ist ein netter, aber touristisch schon recht \u00fcberlaufener Ort mit vielen Cafes und weitem Blick \u00fcber den See. Am sp\u00e4ten Nachmittag fuhren wir noch zu den nahe gelegenen &#8222;Huka Falls&#8220;, wo  der Huka River durch eine schmale Schlucht schie\u00dft um sich danach in einem sch\u00f6nen Wasserfall zu
